In class today the instructor assigned oral group presentations. Your group's topic is patient cooperation with health care professionals and the effect that has on the relationship between patients and health care professionals. You are responsible for doing a literature search on the topic. The assignment requires that the research come from peer-reviewed (also called scholarly or refereed) journals and be published from 2001 to the present.

Step 1: First take your information need and create a search statement about it.

"I am looking for research articles in peer-reviewed journals that are published in 2001 or more recently, about patient cooperation and its effect on the relationship between patients and their health care professionals."

Step 2: Identify the important concepts in your search.

"The main concepts are patient cooperation and patient relationships"

Step 3: The next step is to use CINAHL Headings to identify the best Subject Headings. Go to the Advanced Search screen and select CINAHL Headings. Then, type "patient cooperation" in the Browse for box.

Step 4: Patient cooperation maps to "Patient compliance" which is a CINAHL Heading. Click on the heading.
