The librarians are committed to offering relevant library skills instruction. If your class could benefit from instruction with a librarian, a class can meet in the library or, in some cases, in-class library instruction may be more useful.
Student Learning Outcomes for Library Skills Instruction

To find books using the Library catalog
To find journal articles using databases such as EBSCOhost
To know how to request books and journal articles not owned by the library
To understand the differences between types of sources, such as a scholarly and popular publication
To select databases and library resources appropriate for the topic
Some important points about Library Skills Instruction
Email the reference librarian or call 917-4641 to schedule a class. Please schedule your class at least a few days ahead of time to ensure the availability of the Library Instruction Room.
Unless you tell us otherwise, we will assume that many of your students have a limited understanding and experience of the research process.
Normally the instruction will focus on general library resources - print, electronic databases, and the Internet. However, the session can be adapted to accommodate specific needs or stress certain points. Just email the reference librarian or call 917-4641 to find out what adaptations can be made.
We have noted that it is most useful to schedule the instruction session so that it coincides with the students' research project. Students seem to be more engaged in the instruction session.
We want you to attend the full session with your students. We have seen students more engaged in our sessions when the instructor and librarian support each other's statements.
