Etiquette Guidelines

Respect other library users.

Talk quietly. Turn off cell phones and pagers.
When you are working in a group, use one of the tables under the lower ceiling.
Use the computers for academic purposes only.
Limit your time on the computer if someone is waiting to use it.

Respect the space.

Keep food and drinks away from computers, VCR's and DVD players.
Report any damage to staff.
Request help from the library staff to clean up food or beverage spills.
Keep materials in the condition in which you found them.
When you leave, clean up after yourself.
Place recyclable paper in proper containers.
Return furniture to where it belongs.
Turn off TV's, VCR's and DVD players when you finish using them.
Use of tobacco products is prohibited.

Computer Use Guidelines

The computer research stations should be used primarily for your educational and instructional needs. The computers in the library support campus e-mail, internet usage and Microsoft Word. The computers in the Library Instruction Room support non-campus email (hotmail, for example).

Assistance

Librarians are available to help you with research projects, can answer Microsoft Word questions and can get you started with financial aid and registration webpages. We cannot help with non-campus e-mail or the use of PowerPoint or Excel. The Forum Lab and Learning Center Lab are prepared to help with all of your Microsoft Office questions.

What you may NOT do on the computer

Chatting is not allowed. Some chatting is allowed on computers found in the Multicultural Center.
Instant messaging is not allowed.
Playing games is not allowed.
Viewing pornography is not allowed.
Downloading software is not allowed.
Installing application software or plug-ins is not allowed.

Time Limits

We expect you to limit your time to one hour during peak computer use time periods. If staff ask you to stop any activity, we expect you to comply.

Food and Drink

You may not eat or drink near the computers. Please leave your food and drinks on a designated table in the library.

Printing and Printer Paper

You should limit your printing. We recommend that you read or scan material online and print only what you need. If you don't have time to read an entire article, please save or e-mail the article. Library staff can assist.

Scratch paper is provided, so do not use printer paper as scratch paper. Do not try to printout a document more than once. If you need help, ask a member of the library staff. Ask before adding paper, envelopes, transparencies, etc. Users are entitled to only one printed copy of each of their documents. Additional copies should be made on photocopiers located in the northwest corner of the library.
