Use this worksheet to begin research on a paper required in a class or on a subject of interest to you. Use the same subject for the entire worksheet. Please talk to one of the Reference Librarians at any time if you need help or clarification on any questions.

A. Use the LCSH (4 large red volumes located on the GENERAL ENCYCLOPEDIA table) to find additional terms for your subject. You will use these terms when searching the library catalog or electronic databases. For example, if your subject is “abortion”, look up the term in the Library of Congress Subject Headings. You will see broader terms (BT), narrower terms (NT), subdivisions of terms, and more. You may list terms such as these for abortion: Birth control (BT), late-term abortion (NT), Abortion—Moral and ethical aspects (subdivision).
